Brits Caravans is closing its doors after 41 years, but that doesn't spell the end of the business. Bundu Trailers in Hartbeespoort will now house the workshop section.
Francois Stander, who looked after the workshop all these years, will be looking after customers at the new premises.
Brits Caravans have a rich history. Francois’ mother, Lettie, set up the business in 1981, after which Francois’ father, Eddie, joined Lettie a month later. One year later, Francois also joined the company. These were the years when a Venter trailer cost R300 and a Jurgens Exclusive R9 735, he recalls.
The head of Jurgens at the time, Michael Delport, would often pop in for a cup of tea, says Francois. One day, Eddie apparently asked Michael why they didn't build a caravan…
