Asawa was born in 1929 in California to Japanese immigrants who worked as truck farmers. She and her siblings—six of them—helped their parents on the farm. However, Asawa still attends school and is recognized early on as having artistic talent. Life was not easy for Asawa’s family. In addition to the struggles brought on by the Great Depression, discriminatory laws against Japanese people made making a living hard for Asawa’s family. Her parents were not allowed to become American citizens or own land. Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz born in Connecticut in 1949 to an Estonian-Jewish mother and Romanian-Jewish father is considered one of America’s best portrait photographers. Lebovitz’s early career started at Rolling Stone magazine in the 1970’s where she had many opportunities to photograph legendary rock stars. On April 21st, 2016, people everywhere mourned the unexpected passing of Prince, a man dubbed one of the greatest musical artists of all time. He is one of the best-selling artists of all time, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide. His unique, innovative style and consistent hard word is what brought Prince to the top–and kept him there. Prince Rogers Nelson, born June 7th, 1958 in Minneapolis, rose to fame in the 1980’s at a young age.
