Here in Australia, we’re all pretty damn privileged. We have stunning beaches, a decent minimum wage, access to clean water and, overall, a great quality of life. But even within our lucky country, different levels of privilege exist – and being aware of this is key to being a great ally to minorities who have been marginalised.
WHAT IS PRIVILEGE?
Put simply, privilege is a special right or opportunity given only to a certain group in society. This advantage can be based on their age, education level, abilities, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion or social class. On the flip side, those who do not fit into this category may find themselves disadvantaged or even persecuted.
