First up, don’t pressure yourself to ‘feel’ any specific way. Like any big event, having sex for the first time can come with mixed emotions after it’s all over. “You don’t necessarily know what kind of emotion you’re going to feel,” says sex therapist and educator Jacqueline Hellyer. “Sometimes it can almost be a let down, because we build it up so much.” Other feels that might be floating around your head and heart? “If the sex was a good experience – elation, relief, happiness. If it wasn’t such a good experience, you could feel upset, embarrassed, sad or anxious,” says sex therapist Dr Janet Hall.
