In these past few post-COVID months, I’ve made it a point to tour showrooms and meet with as many designers and industry professionals as possible. Every time, the topic of Florida design—what it is and what it isn’t—comes up, and I find the answers fascinating.
Does our state have a design signature? There are some common denominators, certainly: expansive outdoor spaces, a tendency toward indoor-outdoor living, broad windows to bring in sunshine and views. But beyond that, it’s hard to compare the immaculate contemporary environments of Miami to the Mizneresque mansions of Palm Beach, or the cottages of the Keys to the modernist architecture of Sarasota.
