THIS winter’s Snapper fishing, has for me, been both wonderful and frustrating.
On the one hand, I’ve been bringing in good catches since April. Nothing excessive, but lots of three, four, five nice sized table fish most trips, with only one doughnut. We’ve enjoyed snapper grilled whole, pan-fried snapper, battered snapper pieces with dipping sauce, snapper sashimi (with the slithers rescued from the backbone) and my favourite, skinned snapper fillets fried in thick batter. So, on the table front, it’s been fantastic!
That said, I had yet to land a big fish. Every single one I hooked either buried me in kelp, swam around rocks or pulled the hooks. The tally of jigs lost to big fish is over a dozen and my usual tactic of a slow sinking soft…
