Broadleaf weeds and grasses are overrunning your perennial plots.
DIAGNOSIS
Weeds and grasses can quickly outcompete clover and alfalfa, squeezing them out in the battle for nutrients, sunlight, and moisture. A plot that should last three to five years can become a virtual weedfield in a year unless you combat them.

First, check your soil’s pH. Weeds thrive in acidic soils. The pH level should be 6 or higher, preferably 6.5. If it’s not, add powdered or pelletized lime to neutralize acidity. Second, identify the enemy and choose your weapon. Broadleaf weeds can be reduced with selective herbicides such as 2, 4-DB (Butyrac 200) or Slay. If the problem is mostly grasses, use a sethoxydimor clethodim-based chemical spray such as Arrest, Arrow, Select, Weed Reaper, or Poast Plus.…
