MOTORBASE FOCUS BTCC TAKING THE LEAD Tom Chilton leads the Independent Driver standings, and having topped the overall Drivers table after Race 2, is still in the mix for the Championship crown in 2019… The race weekend at Donington started the same as Brands Hatch a few weeks earlier; the wet, difficult conditions meant setting a flying lap in between red flags was almost impossible. That meant our drivers Ollie Jackson and Tom Chilton could only secure P11 and P13 slots on the grid respectively. CLUB PROFILE FORD CLUB GB We catch-up with RJ at Ford Club GB to ask about what it is that makes his ever-growing club so popular… How and when was the club started? “The club started in June 2017. I was a co-owner of the Ford Galaxy Owners Club, and I wanted to start something for all Fords which had an inclusive family feel.” Who are the key admins/members/staff who run the club? “I’m the club owner; the admins are Victoria Hope and Ann Louise, and the moderators are Paul Kelly and Rebekah Michelson. Our media staff are Bob Wilson, Liam Miller, and Steven Lee Waterworth.” How many members do you have? “We currently have 12,400 members – we’re very big in many other countries as well as the UK!”…

IN THE SPOTLIGHT ADAM HAYNES WRC-STYLE FOCUS ST There’s often a small selection of WRC-inspired Focuses at Squires, and this facelift ST of Adam Haynes caught our eye this time around. Having owned BMWs previously, Adam switched to Fords in the shape of this ST in standard guise around three years ago, and hasn’t looked back since. As is often the case, he had no intentions to go so far with this project, but soon the performance mods began in earnest. Adam has chosen to take the ‘Matt Lewis 350 package’, with Dreamscience V2 map along with a hybrid K06 turbo. Larger 550cc injectors, 70mm throttle body, and an Airtec intercooler also help out, while the imposing KMS Section 18 exhaust with 5in tips dominates the rear diffuser, along with…

IN THE SPOTLIGHT SEAN CARR FIESTA ST Despite the Focus domination at Squires this year, there was still a healthy attendance of fast Fiestas. One that stood out was this 2015 Mk7 ST belonging to Sean Carr. Sean’s only had the car for a year, but he didn’t hesitate to put his own mark on it straight away. The Calibre 17in rims on H&R lowering springs and KSB carbon splitter add a touch of extra aggression to the exterior, while Maxton spats and rear spoiler extension help out too. The engine hasn’t been neglected either as an ITG filter, custom intercooler, and Peron 243bhp remap make this ST a lively performer on the road. IN THE SPOTLIGHT MARK DEVONSHIRE SIERRA COSWORTH RS500 While most RS500s seem to be reverting to standard spec – no doubt thanks to their ever-spiralling values – it was refreshing to come across this wild and far-from-standard example at Squires belonging to Mark Devonshire. He bought the Cossie some ten years ago now, in an already-modified 380bhp guise, but Mark was keen to take things further. In 2010 the shell was treated to a full respray and more recently the fabled YB engine has been treated to a full no-expense-spared rebuild by Norris Motorsport. The hybrid turbo, Siemens 72lb injectors, Spec-R intercooler and Norris remap mean this Sierra now pushes out an impressive 550bhp, and it sounds the business too barking through that Mongoose system. FASTER FORDS FORDS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN… Today, the latest fast Focus models are rebuked for having too many doors, but back in the 1970s Ford were criticised for not building more family-friendly sporting models. IN THE SPOTLIGHT ELNA ANDERSON FOCUS ST DIESEL This time around, Squires certainly wasn’t short of tidy Focus STs, but one that really stood out was this ST Diesel belonging to Elna Anderson. Just two years ago, she bought it as a standard daily driver, but along with some help from her boyfriend, Louis, it’s since been transformed into the stealth-styled chariot it is today. Elna originally didn’t plan to take things so far, but Louis (who’s just built himself a Fiesta ST) was keen to help inspire his girlfriend when it came to modding her car too. IN THE SPOTLIGHT TIM JOYCE FOCUS ST Yes, it’s another Focus ST; but this car was one of the stars of the show for us as its Euro styling made it really stand out from the pack. Tim Joyce bought this pre-facelift model seven years ago, having owned four Fords previously including three Fiestas. “I was intending to buy a SEAT Leon but when I heard an ST drive past, I knew I had to get one,” he laughs, “I only planned on keeping this car for two or three years but as the mods developed, I knew it’d be a keeper”.
