Forage branches from your own conifers or broad-leaved evergreens, or ask a friend or neighbor if you can give theirs a trim.
Look for mature trees and shrubs that are free from pests and diseases. Common options include pine, spruce, fir, juniper, cedar, cypress, holly, boxwood, laurel and magnolia.
Use clean, sharp pruners to remove overgrown branches or make selective cuts that preserve the plant's natural form.
Place freshly cut branches into water for several hours. Then, create arrangements in water-filled containers, or mist other greenery decor daily to keep it from drying out. Locate displays out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
