Update a Stool with an Accent Rug Incorporate today’s trends in textures and patterns onto a favorite vintage stool using a thin cotton accent rug. STEP 1 Remove the cushion and underlying base from a rectangular wooden stool. STEP 2 If your rug has enough fringe to cover the perimeter of your stool, salvage it. To do so, machine sew a parallel line with at least a ½” border above the fringe to prevent it from fraying and then cut above the sewn line to remove the fringe.
