WE had some friends around for dinner the other night, and we were still sitting around the table having a marvellous time when, at about a quarter to ten, Mariella said, ‘Right, everybody out. We know how Suzy misses curfew.’ She was remembering a column I’d written ages ago in which I may have mentioned how much I loved the fact that everything stopped at 10 pm. Reacher (Amazon Prime) I’m a big fan of the Reacher books, but never bought into Tom Cruise in the lead in the movies (Jack Reacher is 6'5"; Tom is 5'7", for one thing). Alan Ritchson, who plays the role in the Amazon series, is a giant, as he should be, because it’s critical to the plot, and the series as a whole is extremely well made and very watchable. WINNING LETTER MOUNTAIN MEMORIES The article ‘The shining mountain’ in your November/December 2021 issue brought back very many happy memories of my own climb – a very different experience from that of your lovely group of ladies, and well done to them! My own adventure started in early 1967. Three other moms and I decided we would go on this adventure. We were advised that two local men, who had climbed the mountain a few times before, would probably be willing to act as guides. We knitted woollen socks, gloves, hats and scarves, and had new leather boots made by the local fundi, all a size larger than usual to accommodate two pairs of socks.
