Q: People constantly warn against henna tattoos and I’m not sure why. A: Henna (the natural, red kind) has been used for thousands of years (often at weddings) to decorate the skin and, apart from causing an allergic reaction on sensitive skin, it’s relatively safe. But the black tattoo trend has recently led to the use of ‘black henna’. This is not safe: it is a mix of henna and other substances, most significantly paraphenylenediamine, or PPD, which gives it a black colour. FOOD  Pasta is our go-to quick meal option. And we have just the thing for a delicious topping: garlicky, herb-packed, homemade breadcrumbs. Place four slices of bread in a food processor and pulse to coarse crumbs (you’ll need about 2 cups). Heat 4 tablespoons butter or ¼ cup olive oil in a large frying pan. Add the breadcrumbs and fry over medium heat for about 5 minutes until golden brown. ‘Nine years into my research and academic career, one of the most common questions I get from family and friends is: “Will she ever finish studying?”’ says Ndoni Mcunu.
