The behaviour of children is often a reflection of adult behaviour, psychologist William Mngomezulu says. “We cannot start punishing the children while society is the one that needs to be punished. Under-18s who are convicted of crimes will not necessarily face jail time. A magistrate or judge can order them to serve their sentences under house arrest, or at a juvenile detention facility.
