MONEY, MONEY, MONEY
‘DID you see that cheque that lady handed me?” SLOANE STEPHENS said after winning her first Grand Slam title, obliterating Madison Keys 6-3, 6-0 to become the US Open champion. It was the first time an American – outside the Williams sisters – had won the tournament since 2002.
Sloane picked up $3,7 million (R47,7 million) for her efforts.
“Like, yes!” she said about her winnings, “Man, if that doesn’t make you want to play tennis, I don’t know what will.”
Stephens was also thrilled when she was told she’d only made six unforced errors in her triumphant 61-minute match.
“Shut the front door,” she said. “I don’t think that’s ever happened to me before. Oh, my God. That’s a stat. Snaps for me!”
ANDERSON’S PROUD MOMENT…
