Denzel Washington delivers a powerful performance as Troy Maxson, a middle-aged refuse collector. He’s embittered by life and prone to delivering gin-soaked, larger-than-life stories as he ruminates on what could have, and should have, been his life. His audience is his formidable wife, Rose (Viola Davis, who won an Oscar for her performance), and his best friend, Jim Bono (Stephen McKinley Henderson), who mostly indulge his boisterous rambling.
The film, which Denzel also directed, is based on the play of the same name and features most of the same cast.
