ACTOR, director and playwright NYEMBEZI KUNENE recently died at the age of 74. He battled diabetes for years and eventually succumbed to the disease.
His son, Sonqoba Kunene, confirmed the news on Facebook.
“A few hours ago [Saturday 4 June], a legend departed this land,” Sonqoba wrote. “The great Nyembezi Kunene, actor, director, playwright and producer, has passed on. Following a prolonged illness, Nyemza lost his battle with diabetes and died peacefully at the Lesedi [Private] Hospital in Soweto late on Saturday evening.”
