Previously, I had always associated ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) with hyperactive school boys: surely, as a 40-year-old woman, it had nothing to do with me. Yet I kept realising that more and more tasks felt harder than they should. Plus, in all honesty, I’ve always felt like an outsider. So, after hearing about similar experiences from people with ADHD on Instagram, I tried an online test. Unlike at school, I wasn’t that happy to realise I had scored much higher than I expected.
Of course, you should never trust these tests alone, but a private diagnosis confirmed the results. The NHS would have required me to wait over two years, which is ironic when you have an attention deficit! After the initial shock, however, this diagnosis was a relief.…
