Now in its 15th year, the Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA) rewards photographers based on creativity, technical ability and their approach to contemporary subjects. This year’s competition was divided into categories including Architecture & Design, Creative, Environment and Portraiture.
Unlike most photography competitions, the SWPA announces its winners gradually, starting with the student and youth category, then the regional category, followed by the professional and, finally, individual winner. Over 340,000 images from 211 territories were submitted to the 2022 Awards and over 156,000 were entered into the Professional competition – the highest number of entries in the history of the Awards.
