Selections are simply a means for isolating part of an image in order to make changes to it. With montages, we can use selections to make accurate cut-outs by isolating people, objects and shapes from their original backgrounds. Photoshop has an array of selection tools and commands, each offering a different talent. Some, like the Lasso Tool, are freehand and go where your mouse tells them. Others, like the Magic Wand Tool or the Color Range command, work by targeting and snapping onto colours and edge details.
