Jake Kaullen loves chasing whitetails. For him, it’s all about the meat, adventure, and the pursuit of a mature buck. “Deer hunting is hunting for meat and sport,” he said. “Sometimes, we donate our meat. And donating isn’t free. We pay for processing and give the meat to someone in need. That’s what deer hunting is to me.”
The hunt for his Platte County, Missouri, monster was no different. In 2021, he saw the deer in person. That year, it was a clean 12-pointer. The buck walked by Kaullen during rifle season, but he’d already filled his any-deer tag.
“He was in front of me for 30 minutes,” Kaullen said. Of course, he continued to see the deer on trail cameras.
