A SERGEANT stationed at Lentegeur police station is out on R1 000 bail after allegedly driving gesuip and crashing into a Golden Arrow Bus. The incident took place on the corner of Eisleben Road and Lavender Street in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, after 8am on Monday. SHOT DEAD AT CHURCH

ATLANTIS community activist Moses Matiso was shot and killed in what is believed to be a hit at his church on Monday morning. Matiso was elected chairperson of the South African National Civics Organisation (SANCO) JS Masakala Branch in Witsand just under a year ago. Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident and said that Atlantis police are investigating a case of murder. WESTERN Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile’s presentation on gang violence has been slammed as “misleading” by Parliament. The report, which claimed the situation is “under control”, has been contradicted by alarming statistics showing 90 percent of gang-related murders nationwide occurred in the province. During his presentation on Wednesday, Patekile said despite a slight increase in contact crimes in gang- infested areas, the police have implemented various strategies to address gang violence.
