There’s a new kid on the block in the bakkie market. Actually there’s another kid arriving on the bakkie block too, but we’ll get there.
Look, South Africa is a bakkie nation, so the more the merrier as it were.
First to arrive, Chinese-owned manufacturer LDV has announced that it is pulling in to the SA market with a vehicle or two.
Experience
LDV used to be called Leyland DAF Vans, a British manufacturer from like a century ago. Then the Russians bought the firm, now apparently it is owned by China’s SAIC Motor, since 2010.
There’s the history, and the company has plenty of experience in producing a range of panel vans, bakkies and minibuses, providing many vehicles for British utilities who politically had to buy British-built vehicles.
