Natasha Joubert never gave up on her dream of becoming Miss South Africa. She chased it until it became a reality. Natasha, 26, who was participating in the pageant for the second time, was crowned Miss South Africa 2023 on Sunday evening at an event in her hometown in Pretoria. Winning three challenges on “Crown Chasers” made her a strong contender. She went head-to-head with Nande Mabala, of Worcester, and Bryoni Govender, from Joburg, as the top three finalists. Govender and her made it to the top two and when host Bonang Matheba announced her as the winner, Natasha was over the moon. Retrial Ismail instructed Ackerman to file his motion for a retrial with the court and State by November 15 and the motion for retrial will be heard on November 30. IOL previously reported that Ackerman was convicted on charges including attempted murder, rape, sexual exploitation of children and sex trafficking. Ackerman was charged alongside acting judge and senior advocate Paul Kennedy. The two ran the human trafficking ring between September 2020 and July 2021. Kennedy died by suicide. The men were charged with sexually grooming children, being in possession of child pornography, creating child pornography, committing rape, sexual assault, compelled rape, compelled sexual assault, human trafficking, sexually grooming children and benefiting from sexually exploiting children.…

LAST week’s taxi strike cost the city of Cape Town dearly. Five people lost their lives. Obviously, no value can be placed on that. Businesses were looted and damaged. I have to make the point that although looting and damage were done during the taxi strike, I believe this to have been the work of opportunists and criminals – and not necessarily that of those within the taxi industry. I am of the opinion that anyone involved in looting and malicious damage to property should be appropriately dealt with in court. SANTACO has allayed fears of another taxi strike after the City of Cape Town continued to impound vans over the weekend – the day after an agreement was signed. The City was accused of acting in bad faith after 14 vans were impounded – eight on Friday, and six on Saturday. The terms of the agreement were that no taxis would be taken off the road for 14 days.
