With roots stretching back to Cervélo’s original aero bike, the Soloist, the S series has always had the burden of legacy to live up to as well as the standards of its competitors. It can’t just be fast, it must be the fastest. That’s why Cervélo launched a new S5 at the Tour de France this year even when the previous generation would probably still have been sufficient for Visma-Lease a Bike to mix it with the best. ‘At 45kmh, the new S5 is 6.3 watts faster than that previous bike on average across a +/-15° wind angle sweep,’ says Scotty Roy, Cervélo’s engineering manager. Yakima St-ageTwo bike rack $1,299, yakima.com.au Yakima’s StageTwo hitch-mounted bike rack caters for heavy-duty e-bikes as well as high-end frames thanks to a strong yet refined design. As the name suggests, it’s capable of carrying two bikes, but Yakima has an extension available so you can carry four when required (the StageTwo +2 is $899). In what is a signature of Yakima, bikes are fastened to the rack by their tyres, with no frame contact required to attach – a feature particularly welcomed by those with carbon frames. Cyclist: We could point out plenty of highlights in the men’s and women’s Santos Tour Down Under for 2026, but as Race Director, that’s your job! What can we look forward to in both races next year? Stuart O’Grady: From a holistic perspective, next year is set to be the first time in our history we’ve had all UCI WWT and WTeams on the start line across both men’s and women’s races. It has been mandatory for all men’s UCI WorldTour teams to participate since the Santos Tour Down Under was elevated to WorldTour status in 2008. ‘Akid-sized, bright pink Peugeot with drop bars,’ Kev Pollock says fondly as he recalls his first bike. ‘I must have been about seven. I’d seen it in the window of a local shop.
