lienware laptops are well-known for their gregarious design, and the m17 is no exception, with its bold RGB LEDs and honeycomb-styled air vent and speaker grilles. It looks more eye-catching than the modest Chillblast and outdated MSI. Build quality is good too, with sturdy matt magnesium alloy used throughout, and the m17 has great software, eye-tracking and loads of RGB LEDs. It’s a good start, but the £2,599 price is high and, at 2.6kg, the m17 is the heaviest system on test.
Ergonomics are solid. The trackpad has snappy buttons, and the chiclet keyboard has 1.7mm of travel, a rock-solid base, RGB LED backlighting and anti-ghosting alongside four macro keys. The Chillblast’s mechanical keyboard is better, but the Alienware has the best chiclet unit in the Labs.
