Stude The Dude Nick Pandegth has always been in and around vehicles. Starting his career as a mechanic, he moved on to restoring classic vehicles and over the years, multiple vehicles have come into and passed through his ownership. The National Hot Rod, Custom and American Car Show returned to the Lincolnshire Showground in June this year. Once again staged in conjunction with the Modified Nationals, the show offers an alternative genre of non-standard vehicles that the majority of hot rodders wouldn’t normally encounter. While the two shows are separate entities, there is no physical barrier separating them, making the transition from one to the other an almost subconscious occurrence. That is until your brain registers the dramatic change in music, both in style and volume. There is one significant difference between the shows, however: the availability of a couple of permanent exhibition buildings in the modified section of the showground. Nostalgia Superstock Highlight of the drag racing year for nostalgia fans is undoubtedly Santa Pod’s yearly Dragstalgia event – and this year’s edition reinforced that, once the rain went away! I was looking through the entry list prior to the event and considering which classes I enjoyed watching – and it struck me that there was not a single class that did not appeal to me, given the variety of machinery assembled. Every American car manufacturer has what these days are referred to as ‘halo’ models in their back catalogue. Those high-spec, killer cars that most of us can only dream of ever being able to own. If you’re a Dodge or Plymouth guy, they almost invariably begin with the word Hemi. But if you’re a Ford guy, and into the history of drag racing, the word Thunderbolt is sure to set your pulse racing. A one-year-only Ford racing programme concept, the Thunderbolt was one part of a two-car ‘maximum performance’ package for the 1964 season. The full-size entry was a stripped down Galaxie 500 two-door hardtop for A/Stock competition. The big drag racing weekends at Santa Pod haven’t had much luck with the weather so far this season. With the ridiculously wet spring now hopefully in the past, however, and some semblance of summer beginning to emerge, hopes were high that Dragstalgia would be spared. A bumper crop of vintage racers were lined up to compete, some legendary dragsters from the very first days of the sport were on their way from America for the crowds to see, and everything was set for a weeklend to remember. Event: Duchy Ford Show Date: 1-2 June 2024 Venue: Mother Ivy’s Duchy Ford Club staged their annual show on the weekend of 1-2 June – putting the event over two days for the first time. Held at Mother Ivy’s Holiday Park just outside Padstow, the event ran from 10am on the Saturday, with prizegiving at 3pm on Sunday. This year the show was opened by comedian and radio presenter Johnny Cowling, with Saturday evening entertainment provided by Straw Dogs Party Band and DJ Monty Discos.
