Committees matter

At the NSRA AGM held at the end of November, Sue Ayres and Bob Sheppard stood down from their committee positions as Chair and Event Crew Co-ordinator respectively. John Proctor, formerly Treasurer, was elected as Chair, with Barry Young stepping up to take on the role of Treasurer. Tim Mansell also joined the committee in the role of Event Crew Co-ordinator. Our thanks go to all NSRA committee members, past and present, for their dedication, commitment and hard work. The latest inductees to the NSRA Hall of Fame were announced at the meeting. The heat is on

Machine Mart stocks a huge range of heating equipment, including gas-fired and paraffin-fired space heaters for workshops, and electric heaters for use in the home or office. Devil electric fan heaters offer up to 20kW of heat output, Clarke diesel / paraffin space heaters up to 61.5kW, whilst the Little Devil gas fan heaters can produce up to a whopping 117.2kW of heat energy. Foose on the loose

2021 saw The Foose Experience, a 19-car showcase in SEMA’s North Hall of Chip Foose builds from the last 30 years. Add in the delightful C/28 pick-up on the Wheel Pros stand and you had quite a breathtaking collection of cars, covering everything from his P-32 warplane-inspired roadster through Hemisfear, the limited edition (5) cars that inspired Chrysler’s Prowler, George Poteet’s Viper in a Shoebox, Sniper, and his re-imagined’74 Jaguar E-Type up to multiple Ridler Award winners, Impression, Imposter and Grandmaster’35 Chevrolet. Re:Fuel injection

With the event still growing in popularity, the guys behind Re:Fuel in Devon (seeOctober’20 issue) decided to go for something newthis year. That plan materialised as the one-day (10am – 10pm) Re:Fuel Summer Festival, held on Saturday 14August at the stunning Winslade Park near Exeter. The Festival featured a bit of everything, and included car display paddocks, trade stands, food and beverage vendors and a large pop-up stage showcasing local singer / songwriters and bands. Patches and wings

Pirates and Planes is a recurring event, albeit having had a couple of years break of late, held at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum, just off the A143 at Flixton. That gives rise to the Plane part of the event’s name, with the rest of it being taken from the organising club, the East Coast Pirates. Unfortunately, despite being held in August, the weather was terrible, but at least those who attended had the opportunity to have a good look around the museum rather than stand around in the rain. Return journey

Early in 2005, the NSRA was looking for something special to give away at that year’s Hot Rod Supernationals. A nod from Ricky Beasley at Classic and Custom Contours pointed the club in the direction of John Shakeshaft at Arma Street Rods, an ‘arm’ of his Armour Fabrications business. A deal was subsequently struck in which a reproduction steel’32 roadster body and chassis package would feature in the prize draw at the Supernats that August. Here at CC towers, we strive hard to ensure all details published in these pages are correct. Occasionally, though, something slips through the net and, when that does happen, we are man enough to hold our hands up. Positive vibes

As a result of the SEMA Show not happening in 2020, the automotive aftermarket was super excited for this year's gathering. And with the Las Vegas Convention Center's recent expansion in the way of the ultramodern new West Hall meaning there’s now some 4.6 million square feet of indoor floor space, SEMA 2021 had the potential to be bigger than ever. We don’t have exact numbers, but are told there were over 100,000 people there this year, though the crowds seemed a little light at times, compared to pre-pandemic events. The additional floor space of the West Hall may have had contributed to that, but the world’s biggest aftermarket event was definitely back on track. Trading spaces

Not only was it a brave move by the NSRA to hold the Southern Swap Meet in November, it was also a metaphorical fingers up to the pandemic. Very few other events, if indeed any at all, can claim to have been staged in each of the last three years. Undoubtedly it was a risk but, knowing the people behind the scenes, it was a calculated one. There was even a revised payment system for early arrivals, which involved a bit more feet shuffling than in previous years, but seemed to work better. The Cotswolds’ five

Our journey began at Jack’sHill Café on the A5 in Towcester and, minutes later, we found ourselves touring through the beautiful villages and countryside of the Cotswolds, led by organiser, Andy Gardiner. Our first stop off, Bourton-on-the-Water, posed a problem as there was no parking to be had anywhere. SaturdayNite fever

Over 200 classic American cars gathered at Redhill station car park for the second Annual Cruise Nite on Saturday 21 August. Organised by locally based Dream Cars, it promised to be a treat for fans of Detroit iron, ancient and modern, and it didn’t disappoint. Some cruisers had travelled from as far away as Manchester to take part, their cars carrying twosomes or families, all aiming to make the 7pm start time. Thanks to Dunston Hall Hotel, Norwich for the location It had everything I don’t like on it – whitewalls, fake spotlights, lake pipes and skulls When I first saw this car at the 2021 Supernats I just stopped and stared. At first, it didn’t really compute – a 1950’s land yacht done up as a 1960’s street racer – but the more I looked, the more I liked it. But what exactly was it? Back when I was young, the sit up and beg Pops and Anglias struck me as rather amusing cars in appearance. This was no doubt due to the fact we had moved into the more modern era of the Mini and Cortina! With this being the last issue to hit the newsstands this year, it’s traditional I reflect on all that’s gone on over the last 12 months. Trouble is, the last couple of years have been far from traditional in all walks of life. Bearded wonders

Howrefreshing to be able to write about a fresh and exciting new show, after so many being cancelled or rolled over due to Covid. Organised by the team behind The Bearded Brewery in Saint Mawgan, near Newquay, the show filled a Saturday afternoon from 2pm’til 10. The Hill is alive

It was all systems go for the eighth staging of GOW! on the last weekend of August. The VHRA’s members-only event offered unlimited use of Prescott Hill on the Saturday, along with the welcoming clubhouse facilities on the Friday and Saturday nights. With passes for the hill all having been allocated prior to the event, eager combatants started to roll in early on the Friday, with the paddock soon filling up, and the clubhouse shortly after. unlimited use of Prescott Hill on the Saturday Saturday morning dawned with a heavy dewbut no rain, and 10 o’clock soon chimed, signalling the hill was open for business. Piggybacking VW Action, the VP Racing Fuel Doorslammers contenders stormed into action at Santa Pod Raceway on the first weekend in September. With a prize fund totalling £40,000, it was all to play for, not just over the quarter mile but also with mind games before the tree came into play in some cases.
