Imagine your job is discovering and charting antique samplers, envisioning the person who originally stitched it centuries ago. Vickie LoPiccolo Jennett and Maegan Jennett of NeedleWorkPress spend their days doing just that! How did NeedleWorkPress come to be? What’s the story of the coming together of you both? VICKIE: NeedleWorkPress started in the 1990s when I began collecting and charting antique samplers here and there. As a journalist, I was fascinated by antique needlework and related history and wrote articles for several stitching magazines. Our simulation shows you where to place the fourth set of four motifs on your fabric. Our Windermere house’s story… Windermere is a rare example of a town created on a ‘greenfield’ site following the opening of a railway terminus in 1847. It grew quickly in the second half of the 19th century, and was constructed almost exclusively by three local builders (Pattinson, Medcalfe and Harrison) using mostly local stone. Our house then was almost certainly built around 1860 with the ‘slatestone’ mined in the area, and features some of the architectural details common for new builds at the time. Most likely the house would occupy a prominent position, with views across Lake Windermere and to the distant fells.
