Hike and fly in Dubai? When the idea surfaced on social media in September last year no one knew what to expect. Just that 25 adventure-racing pilots, including some of the best in the world like Aaron Durogati, Patrick von Känel and yes, Chrigel Maurer, had been invited to the desert city in November to take part in a new style of event.
Organised by Gui Padua, a world-record holding parachutist and TV host from Brazil now based in Dubai, the competition was supported by, among others, the Dubai Sports Council, the Emirates Aerosports Federation and Skydive Dubai. The plan was to hold four separate day races at four locations over 10 days in the United Arab Emirates.
