Embroidering a blank baby onesie is quick and easy. • Hoop the front of the onesie and one piece of polymesh in a small embroidery hoop (5" × 5"). Q I love metallic thread, but it’s such a challenge to stitch with. Help! A Metallic thread is so beautiful and it adds so much to embroidery. But you’re right, it can be quite difficult to stitch with if you don’t know the tricks. The thing that makes metallic thread so difficult to work with really comes down to the fact that the metallic element is actually made of plastic — either a metallic plastic strip by itself or a filament wrapped with a strand of thread. The plastic, unfortunately, is prone to stretch and break in a wide range of conditions, especially when it gets hot. AN UNSTABLE WOVEN Denim has long been a favorite with both hand and machine embroiderers as a wearable canvas for embroidery art. Regardless of current fashion, denim is always in style. Embroidering denim successfully depends on fabric preparation, thoughtful design selection and the correct combination of stabilizers to make stitchout simple. Denim is a deceptively challenging fabric to embroider because of its unique structure. On one hand, it is a heavy woven twill fabric, which typically supports stitches well. But in the case of denim, the large, moderately twisted yarns shift in the twill weave structure (think of how your jeans fit differently at the end of the day versus in the morning). In addition, many modern denims have significant amounts of polyurethane (spandex, Lycra, etc.) added for stretch. Both…
