Put your favorite all-over embroidery designs to work on a variety of dynamic fabrics. The result is a high-end stitched fabric that can be used for a multitude of special items that are perfect for gifting. Cork has become a popular medium, now available a variety of rich colors and prints. There are many ways to incorporate cork into your embroidery projects. For example, use temporary spray adhesive to adhere batting to the wrong side, and then use a sashiko design to quilt the cork. This will add subtle texture for a unique accessory. Plush fabrics are huggable and lovable, especially the soft touch. Embossing plush, textured fabric is simple. Choose your favorite quilting design, print a template on self-adhesive embroidery-design placement paper, pick a contrast color thread and embellish…

Design Adding machine-embroidered lace, such as medallions or inserts, is an easy way to embellish any blouse. Replacing an entire blouse portion with a lace yoke or cuff is a very similar process, but requires slightly more planning. It’s important to select a compatible lace design for the project, and embroidery software is needed for more elaborate designs. Determine the best design choice based on the garment area to be replaced with lace. If the pattern piece or garment area fits within the embroidery hoop, it’s easier to stitch in a single hooping. If the design is larger than the hoop, skill is needed to combine multiple designs in several hoopings to create a cohesive design. Learn how to easily create the Advent calendar numbers without a cutting machine. • To use this technique, omit the fusible vinyl and instead choose ¼ yard or one fat quarter of contrasting woven fabric and an equivalent amount of double-sided fusible web. • Adhere double-sided fusible web to the contrasting woven fabric wrong side according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Trace the numbers onto the contrasting fabric right side; cut out. • Remove the paper backing from the fusible web, and then center each number between each pocket stitching line over in sequential order; fuse. What do you love the most about the work you do? Being able to take an idea and watch it grow from a vision in my head, onto paper, into my software, to my machine and finally to a finished product. But what I really love the most is seeing other crafters use my designs on their projects, and the joy that something I created brings to them. Where do you find inspiration? From everywhere! Flannel made from 100% cotton is easy to work with and a suitable fabric for a variety of garments and home-décor items. Pre-quilted flannel is often used to make quilts and blankets. Use cotton varieties when making robes, pajamas, boxer shorts, pants, loungewear, shirts, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, baby clothing, pockets and quilts. Wool flannel varieties are available in various widths and blends, such as 50% polyester/50% wool or 97% wool/3% Lycra. Wool varieties absorb 20% to 30% moisture, are cooler and more flame-resistant than cotton varieties and are strong, durable and wrinkle-resistant. Use wool varieties to construct suits, rugs, quilts, costumes, pants, skirts, scarves, blouses, capes, bags, softies, hats, dresses, vests, coats and uniforms. Metallic thread is the perfect way to add elegance, interest and sparkle to any project. Although sometimes tricky to work with, following a few guidelines makes stitching a breeze. • Always position the thread spool vertically on the sewing machine to prevent the thread from coiling or twisting during stitching, which causes breakage. If your machine doesn’t have vertical spool capability, purchase an external vertical spool stand or place the thread vertically in a cup next to the machine. • Most metallic threads have a sparkly film-like exterior that’s wrapped around a thread core. During fast embroidery stitching, too much friction on the thread through a small-eye needle causes the thread to ravel to the core. To prevent this, select a needle with a large eye, such as a metallic…
