IT CONTINUES TO be a staggering fact that the whole of the UK could fit into the US state of Texas. Every one of our national parks, great cities, vast ranges, 40,000 lakes, uncountable scarps, valleys, bowers, nooks, glades, heaths, cwms, coves and defiles – all our myriad landscapes, within the range a Texan would probably drive to pick up a parcel. The problem when it comes to planning a walking break in this target-rich environment isn’t finding enough to fill a week, but somehow applying a reducing valve to the dam-bursting pressure of the infinite possibilities.
