BEFORE YOU GO
The Turkish Republic of North Cyprus is a self-declared state, independent from the Republic of Cyprus, but only recognised by Turkey. However, internationally Cyprus is still regarded as one country, and EU citizens can travel to the north without a visa. The official language is Turkish, but English is widely spoken, and though the official currency is the Turkish lira, sterling and euros are widely accepted.
GETTING THERE
Turkish Airlines (0844 800 6666, www.turkishairlines.com) operate regular services from Gatwick, Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh to Istanbul, from where you can transfer to Ercan Airport in North Cyprus. Alternatively, you can also cross the border by road from the south.
