“Mom was an extremely accomplished woman and the cottage was her respite from the grind of the corporate world,” Shelby says. Nestled among the trees on a lake in Port Austin, Michigan, a little cottage built in 1960, adorned with sunshine-yellow striped awnings, holds fond memories for Shelby Abbott and her family.
“My mom, Michelle, and my aunt were spending a vacation in Port Austin, like they did year after year, when in 2007, my mom expressed how much she’d love to have her own home there. They went to look at a few homes for sale and when they discovered the cottage, they both knew it was IT.” Shelby’s mom put in an offer to include the furnishings and after a week of waiting the cottage was hers.
