The town of Gravenhurst, Ont., will spend Summer 2021 investigating whether it should regulate, or even ban, short-term rentals. This spring, officials will release an information campaign, hoping to educate renters and cottage owners about “expected behaviour” when it comes to noise, parties, fire bans, and general neighbourly-ness. During summer’s peak short-term rental season, municipal staff will then collect community feedback—good, bad, possibly ugly—and, in the fall, present the findings to the town council. To ban or not to ban?
