On the wrong track @ I have been a regular reader of Computer Shopper for 30 years, but it wasn’t until I read your review of the TrackR Pixel (Shopper 358) that I was motivated to write in. In this case, the problem is with Wi-Fi connections, which given how much we all use it – in public, at home and at work – is a serious problem for everyone. So how big is the problem? Nearly all routers support 802.11n, so even a cheap model should provide decent performance. You can expect a transfer speed of around 40Mbit/s at a distance of 10m from any modern 802.11n router. While voice assistants can help unify control, talking to a speaker isn’t always easy, and the current assistants don’t work with all devices, or give you any automation controls. Fortunately, there are other options for unifying your smart home: IFTTT and Samsung SmartThings. IFTTT If This Then That (IFTTT) is a great way to make your smart home devices talk to each other. SMART FRIDGE Both Samsung and LG have had a go at making a smart fridge, building a giant tablet into the front that lets you make notes, see inside the fridge without opening the door and play media. Prices are astronomical, the features aren’t particularly useful, and who wants a fridge that needs regular software updates?
