When rescuer Wendy Hermon was called out to help a swan in need, she was horrified to find the defenceless creature stuck behind a 10ft fence, topped with barbed wire. As she tried to work out how to rescue the bird, her young son Harry was already on the case.
Finding a small gap in the fence, Harry, then eight, squeezed through, and scooped it up into his arms to safety.
Wendy, 52, runs Swan Support, a rescue centre which cares for sick and injured swans. And from the age of three, Harry has been keen to get involved.
