Model Madalyn Davis, 21, from Lincoln, died last week after falling 100ft from a cliff at popular selfie spot Diamond Bay Reserve, near Sydney, Australia. It’s reported she climbed over a fence – which was erected after another woman fell to her death in 2019 – to get a “perfect” Instagram photo.
While Madalyn’s case is shocking, it’s not unique. Between 2011 and 2017, 259 people have died taking risky snaps.
In 2018, Louise Benson, 37, and her boyfriend Michael Kearns, 33, were killed after falling off a 100-ft high wall in Portugal while taking photos; and holiday-goers Jayden Dolman, 20, and Daniel Mee, 25, died while attempting to capture a selfie last year.
