Honey has traditionally been used as a remedy for centuries to soothe skin, improve digestion and even treat insomnia, and now research has confirmed it does have healing powers.
“Consuming honey is a simple way to boost your health,” says nutritionist Elouise Bauskis. “It’s rich in vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, iron, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium, antioxidants, enzymes and amino acids. It also has natural antibacterial, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.”
There are hundreds of different kinds of honey, and the health benefits they provide depend on what plants and flowers the bees have fed on. Honey varies in colour, texture and aroma, too, with darker honey usually containing more nutrients.
