In the 1950s and 60s, International Harvester and Mack attempted to sell middleweight trucks in the UK, but they were never huge sellers.
The story of US trucks in the UK in the late 1970s is more interesting. In mid-1978, the film Convoy was released, and it used a Mack RS700 as the main character's drive, but other classic American trucks - conventional and cabovers – were seen.
In 1979, a US TV series BJ and the Bear aired, with a Kenworth K100 Aerodyne as the main truck. Also in 1974, TRUCK magazine was born.
