MO FOSTER, A session bassist who worked with a wide range of rock, blues and progressive artists during a seven-decade career, has died at the age of 78. Foster’s name appeared on records by Phil Collins, Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, Ringo Starr, Sting, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Brian May, Gerry Rafferty, Van Morrison, Joan Armatrading, Meat Loaf and many others.
Born in Wolverhampton, Foster had to build his own bass guitar as a teenager because none were available for sale locally. After forming the prog-jazz band Affinity in 1968, he began to make inroads into the world of session work and never looked back. He played on more than 400 albums and singles.
