Glam rockers’ 1982 album, now with five discs of extras.
It was the band in which two famous musicians first made a name for themselves – singer Phil Lewis, who went on to star in L.A. Guns, and guitarist Phil Collen, who joined Def Leppard. In the early 80s, Girl were touted as London’s answer to the New York Dolls. They were, as Collen dryly recalled, “the ponces of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal”.
They released only two albums, the first, Sheer Greed, a minor hit, the second, Wasted Youth, an abject failure. But, as Lewis discovered when he moved to LA in 1985, those albums had resonated powerfully with Tracii Guns, his partner in L.A. Guns, and the guys in Tracii’s former band,…
