The most successful driver in Grand Prix Sidecar history, Steve Webster, is to be guest of honour at the Carole Nash Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show, at Stafford over the weekend of October 19-20.
The 10-time world champion had his first race aged just 19 at his local circuit, Elvington, before quickly moving on to national and international racing, winning his first world title in 1987 while partnered with Tony Hewitt, aboard a LCRYamaha.
From 181 world championship races Webster scored 62 wins, 37 second places and 27 third places as well as 82 pole positions. The championship winning years were 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, and 2004, with four different passengers – Tony Hewitt, Gavin Simmons, David James and Paul Woodhead.
