As the car is being reversed, the nearside wheel seems to judder, jump and knock as if the wheel is being dragged along. How To Quickrack Conversion Find out what’s involved in dismantling a Sierra steering rack and fitting new internal components to convert it to a quickrack! Words and Photos Rob Hawkins The number of turns of the steering from lock to lock can be reduced by changing the gearing inside a steering rack. This can help with manoeuvrability of the vehicle and can also make the steering feel more positive and responsive (providing other steering and suspension components are in good working order). New internal components, including a pinion gear and a rack with a different set of teeth are available from Rally Design and Burton Power. In the case of the Sierra, expect to pay around £140 for these parts, which create a steering rack with 2.8 turns from lock…

Is this OK as the valves are bigger, and would it improve performance? I’ve already put a twin-choke 32 Weber on it and four-branch manifold with a free-flow system. FIESTAS AT THE ACE The Fiesta Mk1 Forum celebrates the 40th anniversary with a great turnout in London. Words and Photos Darren Woolway Continuing the celebrations this summer for the Fiesta’s 40th birthday the Mk1 forum got together at London’s legendary hotspot, the Ace Café. If our figures are correct there were 40 cars in attendance, one for each year of manufacture from as far north as the Scottish Highlands. There were a great variety of first generations from 1976-1983 including a van and some XR2s as well as an early ’77 base model that had been perfectly restored. Mitesh Parmar who runs the forum tells us that the event has been held annually at the café for the past seven years and attracts visitors from as far as Germany.…
