In 2017, the young British boatbuilder Leo Goolden flew to Oregon to see the abandoned, 1910-built, Albert Strange-designed gaff cutter of 48ft (15m), Tally Ho. She proved her saltiness by winning the windy 1927 Fastnet. By 2017, she was in need of a rebuild, so Leo moved himself and the boat to Washington State and got started. Since then, his regular YouTube videos on the project have been watched by up to half a million viewers or more (per video!). The yacht is now framed, planked and painted, deck beams in place, ready for transportation to Port Townsend, Washington’s traditional boating hub, to be finished. Meanwhile, Leo still needs funding, which he’s been doing through Patreon – help him if you can at patreon.com/sampsonboatco. And be sure to visit YouTube…
