On 12 July, the Jewel of Muscat, the Arabian sailing ship built to a 9th-century design and covered in CB263, reached its destination, after five months sailing from Oman to Singapore. The ship, presented to Singapore by the Sultanate of Oman, was met by the president of Singapore, SR Nathan. The Jewel of Muscat is a 60ft (18m) replica based on the Belitung wreck, the only known wreck of an Indian Ocean trader, and her hull, built the traditional way, has no metal fastenings at all, being sewn together by coconut cordage through 37,000 holes.
