This is a shot of my 1988 BMW R100GS, taken in Iran during an overland trek to India, setting off in 1995 and returning to the UK in ’96. I covered around 40,000 miles in total, through France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan (including the Karakoram Highway), India and Nepal. I either stayed in very cheap accommodation or slept rough. The bike had many mods, including the big plastic Acerbis petrol tank, and continuously evolved over the trip. I still use it now.
The other picture, taken around 1993/94, is of a drag bike I built up on a long hardtail frame. It had a Z1R engine bored to 1200cc with low-compression Wiseco pistons, a Rajay turbo, TMC nitrous kit and an air shifter.…
