These photographs were taken in Mellieha, Malta, where enthusiasts used to meet and race their motorcycles, which were mainly BSAs, Triumphs and AJS/Matchless. Everyone used to meet up in front of the Red Tower in Armier Bay every Sunday. The photo on the left, showing two bikes racing, was taken around the beginning of the 1960s – the BSA Spitfire on the right is currently still in Malta, owned by my friend. In the main photo below, probably taken in the mid-’50s, the sea is visible behind the motorcycles, as is Comino Island on the left of the shot.
