BRAZIL’S CHEVY SUBURBAN
Ever heard of the Chevrolet Veraneio? Nope, me neither, yet such vehicles would be instantly familiar to Brazilians. Produced from 1964 to 1994, this was Chevy’s locally manufactured Suburban equivalent, an early SUV and virtually the only such multi-purpose people-carrier available in Brazil for many years. Popular as both police cars and ambulances and available as nine-seater mini-buses, the Veraneio presumably used old GM tooling, made obsolete by constant sales-encouraging US styling changes.
Not a problem in South America apparently, where they soldiered on for many years without much updating. Whitebox has produced this unusual and attractive 1:43 scale Chevy, this example painted an understated two-tone beige.
