Peering into the big blue bin, I gasped when I saw what was inside.
Four cocker spaniel puppies, looking desperate.
‘Oh, you poor things!’ I cooed.
No fur on their little bodies, covered in mange – a skin disease caused by mites.
Their eyes were shut, crusty and oozing pus.
It was July 2019, and the lady who’d brought them in to us at RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre, where I worked as an animal care assistant, had found the bucket dumped in her front garden.
The pups inside, malnourished, uncared for.
I was horrified.
Thankfully, she’d done the right thing, given us a call and brought them in.
